365 Days : Collecting Colour of the Sky

Collecting Colour of the Sky — Ao / Awyr / Awan

365 Days of Sun: A Year in Solar Dyeing

One colour a day, for an entire year.

This installation is a visual diary of 365 days, capturing the passing of time, the changing of seasons, and the shifting light of the sun.

Every single day, a new glass jar was set under the sun, allowing nature to slowly paint the fabric using only solar warmth.

From the fresh greens of spring to the deep berries of summer, the warm ambers of autumn, and the quiet earthy tones of winter.

This is the tapestry of the sky, woven by the sun.

Exhibited as part of the international collaborative Tambalan project at Makers Guild Wales (Craft in the Bay) in Cardiff, this exhibition celebrates cultural ties, disability rights, and inclusion between Wales and Indonesia.

Inspired by the Javanese word Tambal, meaning 'to patch' or 'to mend', the work beautifully explores how weaving together diverse fragments, voices, and cultures can restore collective harmony and foster a truly diverse community.

Bringing together Wales (Awyr), Indonesia (Awan), and my native Japan (Ao), this creative journey gave me a beautiful opportunity to connect with others.

ARTIST TALK :

Connecting through Colour: The language of Blue, Heritage patterns and Healing colours

Invite participants to take an epic journey through the fragments of a shared vocabulary, unfolding how our distant voices remain deeply connected under the same sky.

Along with collaborative workshops, these public interactions allowed for a shared exploration of the hidden languages of textiles, the meaning of colours, and heritage patterns.

Beyond the tangible artwork, this entire collective experience stands as a vibrant testament to the cross-cultural friendships that blossomed throughout the process.
